I suspected this fabric would make a great painting, all those delightful botanical nooks and crannies to get up into. The pattern contains a field of leafy bouquets and delicate hands looking for someone to hold. The little messages of hope and positive growth remind us of how far we’ve come. Little whispers of what Logan & I needed to hear in our most vulnerable moments of artmaking, enduring another holiday or life event without our Mother. It had been 10 years since she passed at that point and I think we were both able to see clearer than ever how dark that era was for all of us. Finally, some hindsight, the light shining brightly from behind the foliage chasing out the darkness, a river to cleanse the soul.

The title of this piece "you can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming" is a powerful reminder that change is inevitable and unstoppable. It symbolizes the resilience of hope, renewal, and growth. Just as spring will always arrive, no matter how hard we try to hold it back, so too will new beginnings and opportunities emerge in our lives. It's a message of perseverance, reminding us that even in the darkest moments, the cycle of life will continue to turn, and beauty will eventually bloom again.

All of which is to say, this painting carries a lot of layers of meaning. An ode to my Grandmother who taught me how to sew, my Mother who was like a brilliant combination of Julia Child x Martha Stewart x Gwen Stefani — punky, beautiful and wickedly artistic in every way. And an ode to my sister and I who continue to carry on her legacy and talent.
